Britain's economic crisis was featured prominently. generally sympathetic and favourable mention was made of the efforts to deal with the crisis. The "Sing Tao Jih Pao" of August 8 held up Britain as an example to China. The "Hwa Shiang Pao" of August 7 thought Britain aught to abandon her position of "junior partner" with America and adopt an independent line, thus forming a bridge between the U.S.A. and Russia.
